Bonclarken Testimonials

From Chris Canfield:

I was an initial reluctant participant in the recent church retreat to Bonclarken. I thought that there were better uses of my time, weekend, etc. My attitude was "poor" to say the least. Upon arriving at Bonclarken and being "forced" to slow down and engage in community did the Lord begin to reveal the true blessings of a "retreat", especially in light of todays culture of more, faster, hurry!

I reflected back on the mortal life of our Lord and realized that many times he "retreated" in order to commune with his Father and source of wisdom, power and peace. We would be wise to once again follow his example.

I know, especially for men, that the idea of "retreat" and "surrender" seem foreign and weak in this world's view, however they are the source of ultimate strength in the REAL view of this world and it's creator and sustainer. I am living proof of this truth and am very thankful that our church offered this opportunity and look forward to many more with my Christian brothers and sisters.

From Ronnie Hucks:

This was our second church retreat at Bonclarken.  This year, it would have been much easier to not let a “retreat” infringe on our important and busy schedule.  Even as Marty picked me up from work late Friday afternoon, I was regretting losing valuable work time on Saturday.  But as we had committed; we went.

I cannot express how wonderful it was to have 48 hours to re-charge, and re-focus on God.  In addition to the excellent program, we had time together as a couple, time for individual reflection, and time to make new friends and renew existing acquaintances.  We spent Saturday hiking with friends, and I began to feel the stress wash away.

As one attendee stated at the Sunday service…”Retreat is not a sign of weakness; it is a necessary and proper part of growing one’s faith”.

Thanks for offering us this opportunity to “retreat”.
