Our Mission

First Presbyterian Church is called to love God and people with our Head, our Heart, and our Hands.

Loving with our Head: We are lifelong learners whose lives are shaped and renewed daily by God’s Word.

Loving with our Heart: We commit to loving God and loving people. Relationships are vital and life-sustaining. We are connected to the Lord and are in a life-giving community with other Christ followers. Worship is a primary means to sustain and strengthen our relationship with God.

Loving with our Hands: We use our God-given gifts to serve others. Every Christ follower is engaged in ministry using their God-given talents.

Our Core Values

Guided by the Gospel, true to the Reformed and Evangelical traditions of the Church, and committed to discerning and fulfilling God’s purpose for us, we base our ministry on these core values:

• Spirit empowered: Drawing upon the presence and the power of the Holy Spirit
• Scripture focused: Attitudes and actions shaped by the truth of God’s Word
• Relationally connected: Sharing life together as a diverse Family of Faith
• Celebratory worship: Glorifying God through music, prayer, proclamation, and simply “Making much of God”
• Service driven: Blessing others with the blessings God has bestowed upon us

Strategic Initiatives

• Family Discipleship: Equipping families to make disciples in their homes
• Communicating the Gospel of Jesus Christ in our actions and words to our families, friends, neighbors, and others
• Growing as a disciple of Jesus Christ in our personal life and with a community of other Christ followers. Every covenant partner will be part of a faith community (Sunday School class, small group, etc.) marked by and committed to learning, friendship, and serving
• Using our gifts in ministry to help others
• Reflecting the Light and Life of Jesus Christ to the community of Florence and around the world as we serve the poor, the lonely, and the overlooked
